The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ June 23

FOR TODAY...

Outside My Window...we have blue skies and sunshine.

I am thinking...that there is something very dangerous about the words "always" and "never". Especially in the mouths of politicians. Provide health care for everyone? Across the board? What about my choice to opt out? Make it illegal to bear arms? The founding fathers said that option was more dangerous than having weapons. Guarantee of a higher education for all? The government hasn't done a very good job with elementary and secondary ed. Why should they be trusted with higher ed? Just a few issues....

A second concern is how "accountability" should never be left out of the equation. Like a certain, to be unnamed here, candidate who has announced he is not going to accept federal monies. On the face of it, that's wonderful. Deeper, however, it means that anyone or any organization can donate without fear of disclosure. Even deeper, that means the American public will not know who that person (this particular candidate or any other in the future) is really accountable to. It should be common knowledge that the person/organization who contributes the most is the one the receiver is the most accountable to. Very disconcerting.

I am thankful for...my children's growth, both physically and spiritually. I was looking at my boys today, realizing that one of the twins is almost as tall as some of the older boys.

From the kitchen...bread cooling on racks. Smells so good!

I am wearing...skirt and shirt, white sandals, turquoise necklace that was my grandma's.

I am creating...a memorable plan for the homeschool year. At least, I hope so!

I am going...to relax and unwind this week. I'm also going to be straightening my boys' room while they are gone.

I am reading...scriptures. I haven't been lately, and I've been realizing the gap I have created in my life by leaving them out.

I am hoping...to spend some time being with my daughter this week. The boys have been working very hard on the Communication merit badge requirements, and it has taken most of my time. I think the two of us might go to the zoo and do some knitting for some of the time. She has wanted to learn to knit for ages. I'm also hoping that the boys' Scout Camp location has good weather. No severe weather there, please, thunderstorms included.

I am hearing... my daughter reading Calvin and Hobbes in the front room. My husband got one of the book collections for his last birthday, and my kids enjoy reading it. I'm not complaining---dd has learned to read much better with it. I'm also hearing the sound of pages turning and a spoon tapping against a bowl. That's my son, S-man, previewing next year's curriculum. Sigh. So much for surprises.

Around the house...there are loaded backpacks, ready to go, slightly soggy ground with some standing water outside from the recent storms, and sunlight peeking in the windows.

One of my favorite things...planning curriculum. Now to take it to the next level and actually prepare for it......

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Getting the minivan's air conditioning fixed. Still not done. Waiting for the new harness assembly. I think the dealership is hoping we'll go away, but since our full-service warranty will expire soon, I want it fixed totally. In the meantime, the air conditioning is working so we aren't melting.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

The grass really is greener on the other side of this wall and this elephant knows it!

I'm sure the boys will have a great time at camp and you'll have quality time with your daughter. I used to buy those books for G when she was college age.
I can't imagine homeschooling or preparing the corriculum. I do admire all of you that do this. Mine are married with children now so those days are passed.

I love the smell of freshly baked bread! Maybe this next school year, my youngest and I will try to make bread!

One of my goals is being more regular in Bible reading. I'm trying to do better at it.

It's nice that you'll be teaching your daughter to knit. I just started crocheting again after a long time. My youngest wants to learn how to sew, but I'll have to find (yes, find! LOL) my sewing machine. I'd like to sew again, too, not that I do more than sew straight seams!

Nice to 'meet' you through your Daybook. Enjoy your day, and come by and see my Daybook!
